The Red-bellied woodpecker has been a star on my blog
in the past. He comes to my feeders for suet, for grapes
for sunflower seeds, but he also scours my dead stumps
at the edge of the yard for bugs.

They are magnificent birds. I like the smooth and cool look of the females too. The difference is fantastic between mom and pop, as it should be.
Beautiful, beautiful shots of the red bellied! I love how you caught him in his various activities. I had a female come visit me - but my pics won't be 1/2 as good as yours. She kept moving and keeping far from me.
Great pictures of a beautiful bird.God has given us such diversity in the bird world. Thanks be to Him.
Blessings,Ruth
So very handsome - and they are big eaters!
Shelly: I have an advantage of having stumps and logs not far from my windows, so the birds can't see me as well.
Thank you for your comments!
Ruth: You are so right...I am so thankful when I look out and there is a beautiful bird!
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful comments.
Woodpeckers are my favorite bird also. Always busy but they always seem to be available for a pose or two.
Great shots. You must have been very patient..he is a tricky one to get clear shots of..the ones who visit our backyard are jumpy and quick!! Good post!
Tina: It helps to be inside shooting through the window, he doesn't see me as well. thanks for visiting and commenting
I agree he is a "handsome bugger"! How lucky you are to have him visit your yard. I loved seeing him look for bugs.
I really like them too. They break up any photograph with their interesting pattern!
You capture that "peckerwood", as my husband calls them, very well.
Love them too! Saw two on my walk this morning. Can't wait to get a new camera so I can start sharing pic's as well. Just found your blog and look forward to enjoying it more.
