The Mockingbird Speaks out

Well it's about time Jalynn got some fresh water in
the yard for me. I showed her.. I haven't been to the
feeder all winter when she was looking.

A drink is so refreshing when the snow is on the ground and
everything is frozen.

I think I'll have another before those Doves show up and
muddy up the water

Now! For a bite to eat... UH OH! What's this big guy
doing on my feeder?

Look me in the eye here..... doesn't he know I rule?

Ok buddy I'm giving you 2 seconds to leave

Alright.. well maybe three.. just this one time.

Yes! That's what I'm talking about. She hid the red grapes
on the bottom but I got one. I'll be back. Lets give someone
else a chance to eat these green grapes off the top.

Hey Redbelly, not the red. . . get the green...the GREEN ..
are you color blind?

Who would have thought a squirrel could be my friend?
That's good little furry, you can eat the green.

(I have noticed that when offered red and green grapes the birds will take the red first. When only green is offered they will eat them right up. Wonder why?)

A sky so lovely

Last week early one morning the sky was blue and
every cloud was pink. I found it so beautiful that
I took a bunch of pictures waiting for the sun to emerge.

shortly ... there it was, a bright yellow glow on the horizon
The glow spread upward into the morning sky

and then the sky brightened all around

And as the sun came up so did the birds...
A Tufted titmouse sat on a branch greeting the day

a Blue Jay looks down to see what other birds have awakened

A Mockingbird tries out the new heated water bowl. I was
so happy to see this guy come to the yard.. I had been
trying to lure him in with grapes and fruit but he
had not been seen at the feeder all winter until now.

A shadow is cast upon the mama Cardinal by the sun

What a beauty she is

Next to try out the bird bowl are a pair of mourning Doves

Not a likely couple to be seated together on the branch

Even Mr. Squirrel came out to play in the sun

A special surprise for me... a brown Creeper was
almost camouflaged against the bark of the tree

His movement as he searched for an insect caught my eye.

He would be easy to miss if you weren't looking closely.

Then that evening the sun made another beautiful
appearance as it went down and colored the clouds
once again with the pinkish red hues of evening.

On this day I looked outside
and was blessed by all that God had created.

Sunday Afternoon Sightings...

Another
jane & barbie adventure
Warning: really really far away from the subjects I captured, and
with the capability of my camera no way to get closer.

On Sunday we decided to go look for the Snowy Owl.
Barb had already been there and seen it a couple of times
so it was my turn to see if I could see it. A life bird for me.

The first sighting was a Male Am. Kestrel on a line.

And then a nice big Red Tail Hawk in some trees.

I did get him taking off and a flight picture

You can see his big Red Tail fanned out

A Female N. Harrier was giving us a show but again! far away

I got one a little closer

Later the Male showed up in the sky & circled together..
Bird Girl may have some of these photos on her blog...she
uses a DSLR and it gets the action better than my Sony

Awww Yeah!! The Snowy. This is the terrain and how far
away the owl was on Sunday. Coming down from the top he
was on the second snow line going across.

Taken from a different angle but just as far away as the
shot above.
Yep! There he is. Look at the horse in the background and
come forward & to the right. That's it!!! Kinda looked like
an albino ground hog standing in the field. haha
But I DID see it.

We had a good time no matter how far away the birds were....
A good Friend makes all things twice as fun!
