A "Deer Hunter's" Door Wreath

Last year after Christmas I was at Tractor Supply
(one of my Favorite cowboy up stores) and I saw
a wreath for hunters... costing 35 buckaroonies.
I said to myself.... self: "you can make one of these"
and for a lot less money.
So I started to gather what I needed.
My brother is a big time hunter and I thought it
was the perfect unique gift for him.

so.... lets begin.
Some red shot gun shells

A cute little camouflage girl with dangling legs

A matching camo guy ... same dangling legs

Check out the pretty ribbon with the deer sporting
the big rack .....
and more green AND red shells

Now for the perfect 'deer' family. Mom, pops
and baby fawn

Put it all together.... and voila you have the "deer hunter's wreath"

Light 'er up and watch her shine!! Isn't she lovely?
My brother will be proud to hang it on his door.

shells: free
camo figures: $1.98 ea. on sale $3.96
ribbon: 3.98 on sale 3.98

Tagged! I'm It.

When Barb tagged me to list my 5 Greatest Joys in
Nature.....I thought how will I find 5! Dah! There are so
many I had a hard time keeping it to 5!
I have been so busy and stressed with Christmas
and a ton of responsibilities that I wasn't going to
do this.....but Thanks Barb! I'm glad I spent tonight
looking through my old photos and reminiscing and
appreciating what God hath truly provided for our eyes
ears and senses to enjoy.

When I started to get serious about photography it wasn't
birds that drew me but deer. They are certainly my first
love and a joy to behold.

The sound of the wings of a hummingbird and the
glimpse of one brings joy untold and reminds me that
summer is truely here.

A Simple joy is my yard my swing, the bright yellow forsythia
the smell of lilacs and the sight of a bright purple clematis

The joy of being a country girl... I grew up one and to this
day love to see farms, fields, creeks and ponds.

Ahhh yes Birds! The joy and privilege of finding a Kestrel
right in a tree where I work and observing it mate and
have a family of 6.

Traveling far to see a Short-eared Owl, and
yes! the joy of getting many beautiful photographs.

And the Joy of seeing Pale Male in Central Park. What a thrill
that was.... just like in the movies.

and great things he hath provided for our enjoyment.

Oh Brother..Where Art Thou?

High in the Oak Tree in my front yard I see one squirrel looking
around in search of a brother.

While he's searching, his brother sneaks up from behind..
haha gottcha now!

Oh! I don't think so.

Try and get out of this hold.

uh oh! Another brother shows up to join in.

I've got this end... you get the other

Awww stop that biting... he got loose

Hey I can use some help here...

Holy Geez.. how long does it take to scratch your itch?
That's more like it

Hold him tight...I'm coming

I'm sneaking in from behind... hold him!

Just try and get out of this one ... go ahead try!

help he's getting free

help is on it's way... another brother? or wait! is this cousin Fred?

It is so much fun watching these young squirrels play
with each other. Reminds me of a bunch of little boys,
wrestling with each other falling down and back up again.

The big Red dog next door just sat and watched... next
to his Christmas Candle.

Invasion of the Pine Siskins

If I get up early enough I can look out my bedroom
window and see the sun coming up beyond the
trees in my back yard.

It's a warming sight for an early morning chill.

I can also see a regular visitor...A Blue Jay rising with the sun

Or a common little house finch looking in the kitchen
window as I am getting water for my coffee

On this morning I am thrilled to see a couple Pine Siskins
on the feeder tray

Tasting some snow as he picks up a seed or two
The Pine Siskin resembles the Goldfinch , especially during
the winter, due to their similar size, however, the Pine
Siskin's signature call distinguishes it from the others.

The call is pretty and ends with an ascending zreeeeeeee listen here

Whether sitting high up on a limb....

Or on the shepherd's hook

They are the cutest little bird.

Before I could count to 10 .... I look out and the feeder
was 'full' of Siskins

One year, this species may be abundant in a particular area,
and might be completely absent the next year.
Fluctuation in a reliable food source is thought to be a factor in
their irregular migration.

This is the first year I have noted them at my feeders.

When sitting by themselves they seem so gentle, but

at the feeder they are quite aggressive towards each other
and the other finches. Two Goldfinches show up for Niger seeds

Ah Ah Ah don't get in my way

I like when they fan their wings and you can see the
yellow hidden there

They are an active and entertaining group
