Young Red Bellied Woodpecker

Putting out some fresh grapes and
some grape jelly and a freshly cut orange will
usually bring some interesting backyard birds
to my feeder. I had been searching for the
Red Bellied Woodpeckers nest but could not
find it. But here's the proof there was one.
A young RB showed up one morning to
check out the offerings

He very gently tastes the grape jelly....

But quickly steps up to check out the oranges

It would be no wonder he loves oranges, as I watched
as mom and dad took mouth fulls away to feed him

Then I notice he starts to call... something probably
associated with food

Dad showed up right behind him ....
They seemed to be talking

Then baby flew away and dad checks out the grapes...
still talking

Bright and early the next morning I catch a glimpse
of him once again

He's curious about me and my camera but not afraid

From this angle looking over the grapes you can't see
that he is actually eating one of the oranges

You can see a hint of his red head that will be
bright like his daddy's by next year

I like to catch him closing his eyes... almost
as if to say he is enjoying his early morning breakfast

Of course he is really only blinking..

What a handsome little fella he is

His father or mother would have gone by now
with one look at me standing inside the window

But that's a good thing about the fledglings... they are
fearless to an extent

I liked the light on this morning with the sun directly
on him. a little shadow of his beak

And speaking of fruit....

My daughter brought me an edible fruit bouquet yesterday

yummy yummy yummy.... the chocolate they use to
cover the fruit is divine... Great for a party! It was her and me
and we were 'full of fruit' when we were done.

To God be The Glory ~~ Great Things He Hath Done
and
Thank God for another year to enjoy His creations!

Happy Birthday! A friend of mine received one of the fruit bouquets and said they were wonderful.

How fun to seen one of those babies up close. I see one like him up in one of our trees regularly, but so far only his parents have come to the feeder.

He's so sweet. Great pix!
I get some Red-bellied WPs at my feeder, but I haven't seen any young ones yet.
I've been wondering about those Edible Arrangements too - they have a truck running around here. Enjoy!
