Apples Oranges or Grapes?

Lots of action at the feeders... so here goes.

Mr. Blue Jay who found out what I said on my last
post about him being disliked and a hog at the feeder
has decided to talk to us... Let's listen in.

Well! Now what has this woman put out here for
me? Orange is one of favorites but I prefer it in
corn, not fruit...

And, what the heck is this over here? Apples?
No thanks to both of them

eeny meeny miny mo!
catch a grape by it's toe.
Hey! These things are attached to each other!

OK now I have one...Now what?

Hey Big Blue ! Let me give you a couple lessons.. listen up

Oranges are yummy... just stick in your beak and get the juice

or you can pull out the fruit like this..

It's all good either way...

I personally like to 'spear' my grapes and take them
somewhere else to eat.

Watch! I'll show you again.

Mr. Bushy Tail wants to give his expertise on the subject.

I do love apples when Jalynn cuts them bite sized for me

But, I must confess I also love grapes.. why else would I
come out in this snow and ice for some? Hey! How do you like
my new eyeliner? I think the white compliments my fur

Ahhh yes! a grape...
mmmmmm . Makes me forget I'm sitting out in the freezing cold
I hope you enjoyed my backyard friends... They love
to talk about what I dish up for them.

And the moral of this story is that comparing the eating habits of birds and squirrels is like comparing apples to oranges. Excellent story, enjoyable and well done! I love how the snow starts falling at the end providing a peaceful still winter note to end on, and the squirrel and feathered friends all live happily ever after.

J,
What a delightful post. I really enjoyed hearing what all your visitors were saying as they visited your awesome bowl of fruit! When I get my feeders back next week I think I will borrow your idea and try some fruit "again"...everything looked so yummy!!

This is such a FUN post! I really enjoyed following the birds at the fruit buffet. Do they eat it fast enough before it freezes solid? I never put out fruit in the winter as it would be frozen in a few hours, or do they peck on it frozen too?

I only got in to having feeders the past 6 mo. During our stretch of deep cold and constant snow cover, even *I* felt sorry for the squirrels who had been 'off the list' ever since they got into the roof of my family room and wrecked all the insulation. I put the pan of fruit under a plastic patio side table to try to help it not get buried. (And the table far enough away from the bird feeder's pole so as not be a launch pad) *Some* of the furry guys do not eat the apple skins, but I loved to watch them eat the pieces. Sometimes they seemed to be turning the piece round and round almost like corn on the cob.

What a great post! Mr. Bushy Tail and his friends are the reasons I don't serve fruit. They gather immediately and take everything.

You've inspired me to go to the fruit section at the grocery and see what is on sale! Fantastic photo captures!
