Dog Bowl becomes a Bird Bowl

It's strange how one little bird sitting on a bird bowl
can
lift your spirits and make you smile.

My husband and I set up my Christmas gift, the
bird bowl on top of my bird bath and I decorated
a bit with a grapevine wreath and then I waited.
I had to work all day yesterday but hubby said no
birds came that he saw. Humpf!! maybe it's not gonna work.
Was he really looking?

Early this morning while working around the kitchen
I saw movement and grabbed the camera. A little goldfinch
was the first to check it out......

move around...

Have a sip....

and smile....
Success! Fresh unfrozen water for my
feathered friends. mission accomplished!

A Blue jay watches from a branch of a nearby tree. He looked
so pretty with the morning sun on him.

A gust of wind ruffles his head feathers..

I have my dog bowl/bird bath on the ground in a raised flower bed. Last night I saw bunnies and even our new visitor- a red fox- drinking from it!!

I like your wreath around it.

yeah!! I know that feeling to have that first bird visiting something new that you put out..we waited several days for the birds to come back and use our birdbath after I put in the heating element..but finally a dove decided he just had to take a chance and try...so glad he did. Love your birdbath display...and your little finch looks so brave and daring!! Blue birds are pretty, as your pictures show, and I love seeing those colors..even tho they are blabbers mouths..

You will love having a heated bath for the birdies and squirrels. Once they find it they are back again and again. I also put a rock in the center of mine as some birds are afraid to dip down from the steep edges if the bowl isn't completely full.

I have an electric heated pet's dish that I bought ages ago that still works to keep fresh water in the coldest weather.

I don't have a lot to say about last year or this new year. Some thoughts...

I hope 2009 will be better than 2008, 2007, and 2006. I do think our government will be inspired by our new President Obama -- at least I hope so.

I would like to see the War in Irag end and I would like to see the killing stop everywhere.

It is my hope that Japan will stop slaughtering whales and raping virgin forests.

And I hope the people will lose their clubs and no longer club baby seals to death.

What a world we have and live in. 2009 could be so much better than it will be.
